The Alpha Delta Pi, the oldest female fraternal organization, was founded on May 15, 1851 at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia by these six women: Eugenia Tucker Fitzgerald, Elizabeth Williams Mitchell, Sophronia Woodruff Dews, Octavia Andrew Rush, Mary Evans Glass, and Ella Pierce Turner. The founding principles are scholarship, leadership, service to others, and sisterhood. There are currently 133 chapters and over 200,000 initiated members. The colors are Azure and White; the Alpha Delta Pi motto is “We Live for Each Other,” Notable ADPis include news anchor Nancy Grace and actress Danica McKellar from The Wonder Years. Interests can join through an undergraduate chapter at a college or university.
