Sorority recruitment is really similar to a job interview, so you prepare for both the same way! When heading to an interview, you want to have prepared thorough, detailed answers to any questions they may ask you. You wouldn’t go into the interview for your dream job unprepared, would you? Then treat recruitment just like that. Here are a few questions to toss around in your head before recruitment:
- Why do you want to join a sorority? This question just might be the first question you are asked at recruitment, and rightfully so! Your interviewer is going to want to know exactly why you want to join THEIR sorority and what you can bring to the table. You should have a pretty good answer to this one cooked up
because you have asked yourself that very question before recruitment! And just a friendly tip, “boys” is not a good answer. 😉
- What were you involved in during high school? This is another front runner question. Make sure you really go into detail for this one. If you were involved in any school organizations, clubs, or sports make sure you elaborate to your sorority host exactly what your role was in the organizations. If you weren’t homecoming queen or class president, no worries! Maybe that just wasn’t your sort of thing. Just make sure you highlight everything that you WERE involved in. They want to know that you will be an asset to their sorority!
- How do you plan on getting involved in the sorority and around campus? Most sororities require their members to be involved in other organizations on campus so think about something else you may be interested in as well, such as student government or an honors society.
- What can you bring to the sorority? Again, they want to know that you will be an asset to their sorority and make them look good!
Good luck, and happy recruitment!
