Famous Greeks

Thousands of fraternity men have made their marks as actors and musicians. Here is a sampling of Greeks (from NIC member groups) who have been seen on TV and theater screens, along with a list of musicians who have either achieved success or are on the way up.

How to be the Best Big!

eletessfnds

Bigs have BIG responsibility. You are there for your little for the ups and downs of college. Bigs are littles’ college mother figures, giving encouragement for dreaded finals week, wiping their tears after a harsh breakup, celebrating their successes, and advising them when important decisions arise.

Don’t be disappointed if you aren’t instant BFFs with your little. Your sorority chose them which means you probably have more in common than you think. Find a topic that you both are passionate about and keep building from there. Good friendships take a long time to create; be patient and keep showing her how much you care.

Treat your little with something thoughtful. A well-thought gift is worth way more than an expensive one. Find out what colors she likes, what her passions are, and some of her favorite foods! Find your inner craftiness and the nearest discount store and make the most out of the budget you have.

Here are some simple ideas!

How to Wake up Feeling AMAZING!

picture3

Has the time change taken a toll on your sleep schedule? Here are a few tips to wake up
and feel great!

Go to bed earlier

It’s always a good idea to go to bed earlier! Treat yourself to an early night every once in a while.

Stick to a sleep schedule

Try to get around 7-8 hours of sleep. Try and wake up around the same time, even on weekends if you can!

Stay hydrated

Experts say to drink half your weight in ounces every day!

picture2

Watch a little TV during breakfast

It is good to be exposed to bright light for at least 20 minutes. The light from the TV can help wake you up. Another naturalistic alternative is to have 20 minutes of sun exposure.

Help a friend out

Have a little convo with your roommate…careful not to start the day with an argument!

Don’t hit the snooze

Either sleep or wake up; snoozing just wastes valuable time!

picture1

Work out

Working out increases endorphins and promotes feelings of accomplishment. It can help you feel mentally prepared for the long day ahead.

Eat breakfast

Food is fuel so eat something that is filling and healthy. Don’t skip out on this vital meal and deprive your body of the energy it needs!

Trick yourself

Tell yourself you are a morning person…you will soon believe it!

8 Reasons Why You Should Rush

tumblr_inline_o2lgpm9eld1qjodxz_1280
Sisterhood

No matter what personality you have, there is a sense of belonging in a sorority. This is a great way to find a family away from home who has similar interests as you!

Memories

Sorority sisterhood brings unforgettable memories that non-greeks just cannot replicate. You get to experience the excitement of bid day, cherish-able moments with your Big or Little, and crazy “Greek Week” activities.635971993802818972-995206816_aopi-nm-2

Never Bored

There is almost always an activity to look forward to and someone who is up for a night out or a chill movie. There are also fun mixers and trademark Greek activities that are unique to the sorority you join.

Educational Focus

Among the many office positions available, vice president of academics is normally included. The officers may check grades and provide assistant to sisters who need touring. There are plenty of opportunities for you to thrive academically.

Social Development

There are so many opportunities to develop strong communication skills and make connections. You will be personally challenged through fun activities and encouraging people. Many people meet loyal life-long friends.

Philanthropy

What’s better than working with some of your favorite people for a wonderful cause? Philanthropy is a huge part of being Greek. Sororities raise thousands of dollars for causes like Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Service for Sight, Read Lead Achieve, the American Red Cross, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and many more.

Networking

When you join a sorority, you join a large network of people of all ages. This may open up doors for future job or volunteering opportunities. Sororities aren’t the only ones with vast networking capabilities. Greek co-ed fraternities and sororities have many opportunities for specific majors or interest groups to expand their social network.

online-networking-quick-tips

Leadership

As you get more comfortable in a sorority, there will be opportunities to lead. Some important leadership roles are President, Vice President, Vice President of Activities, Vice President of Finances, and Vice President of Standards. Taking on leadership roles is a great way to boost your resume for future employers!

How to Feel Prepared for College this Fall

Screen Shot 2016-07-20 at 3.58.33 PM.png

  1. Do your research

Find out basic information about the class subjects so that you don’t go into a class blindsided.  Read class and professor reviews (a good site for this is ratemyprofessor.com) or just ask former students about their experience.

  1. Start a sleep schedule

Set your alarm for a little earlier each day until you reach that college wake up time… if you tell yourself it’s not THAT early you might believe it! This alarm technique will help you feel alert and ready to start class on the first day of school.books

  1. Stay organized

Rent or buy the books you need EARLY to get better rates.  Try setting aside clothes you’re taking so that they feel newer when you unpack. Buy a planner/calendar for important dates and your class schedule.

  1. Set a budget

Record big monthly expenses like car payment, phone bill, and tuition.Set aside money for: entertainment, clothing shopping, beauty products, gas, and charity. Find ways to cut back, and search for job opportunities that easily coincide with your class and study schedules.

5. Find time to relax

Free up a week or a couple days to do things that you love before life gets too busy for you to do them!

We hope you enjoy the rest of your summer, knowing you are prepared for another exciting semester at college!
